TNO was very happy to welcome more than 100 on site and online participants!

There was the opportunity to learn about the latest developments of various European projects by the experts from TNO, VTT, BTG Biomass Technology Group BV, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), TU Darmstadt, Politecnico di Milano, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and hear the EU perspective by the biofuels policy officer and senior expert of European Commission, Maria Georgiadou. TNO offered visits of the new #biofuels research facilities and there was some very interesting round table discussions on the barriers to advanced biofuels & renewable fuels commercialization.

Concawe is a division of the European Petroleum Refiners Association, an AISBL operating in Belgium, whose members are all 40 companies that operate petroleum refineries in the European Economic Area.

Concawe is exploring a cross-sectorial Low Carbon Pathways (LCP) programme, identifying opportunities and challenges for different low-carbon technologies and feedstocks to achieve a significant reduction of the CO₂ emissions associated with both the manufacturing and use of refined products in Europe in the medium (2030) and longer-term (2050).

The meeting was held on January 11^th and POLIMI (Giampaolo Manzolini) and CFE (Marco Ugolini) presented the Converge concept and the biomass assessment methodology respectively.

We are very thankful to Alba Soler Estrella, Coordinator of the STF-3 Group and Science Associate for LCP, for inviting the Converge Consortium to the Secretariat meeting and we are confident that will find further opportunities to share new data, information and ideas with Concawe SFT-3 Group in the next stages of the Converge project.

Thanks to the four level of analysis (first level availability, suitability analysis, biomass spatial distribution at NUTS2 level and MCA), the biomass supply chains in the four EU districts (Scandinavian, Hanseatic, Central European and Mediterranean) have been identified and grouped in 32 biomass supply regional clusters as most promising locations where biomass availability, logistics, and feeding requirements of CONVERGE technology scaled up to commercial size, meet.
